Hours From Day 0

My car is packed. Move-in paper work is printed. The Groupme’s are buzzing. The vlog is diving (Sorry not sorry). My Instagram is booming. Tomorrow I make the journey to Orlando. Everything is almost in order for me to start working for the mouse. I’m the third of my room mates to check-in. We got Vista Way.

Overall I’m excited and nervous but ready to try something new.

10 Days Away From Round 2

So I’m 10 days out from my second Disney College Program. I’ve linked with room mates, started packing, and bought anything I don’t mind driving with. I’ve talked myself out of clothes that I would only wear once. I’ve also talked myself into more Disney outfits then I need. I’ve gotten socks since Bus Greeters wear white with shorts and black with pants. Currently I spend my days packing and un packing when I’m not messaging everyone I’m excited to see again. The anticipation this round is so much more because I get to see friends who I’ve missed so much. Also so many friends and family members are committing to visiting me.

Major Things to do before I leave include:

  • Decide if the vlog is happening now or later
  • Caesar Ball
  • Pack
  • Room mate Gifts
  • Doctor Visits
  • Bucket List Publishing

See you Real Soon!

Apartment Complex Announcment

So today, I didn’t get my arrival itinerary but I did get an email from Disney Dorms revealing my apartment complex. So now for a drum roll!

animal muppets

And my apartment for the Disney College Program is

HousingChatham

And to make it even better both halves of my room mate group got Chatham so there is still a chance of us getting to room together. It was our first pick due to the convenient bus schedule. Also it is the complex where the housing events occur which is an added bonus.

Well until next time

Update: Disney Course Registration Part 2

So I was at the doctor and didn’t check my email till late, but it is official I am taking the Engineering Professional Development Seminar taught by Disney Imagineers!!! DISNEYEngierd

I totally screamed and was so excited to be accepted into this class. I think I’ve told everyone I know and will probably tell anyone I meet between now and my arrival date.

UPDATE: Disney Course Registration

In case you didn’t see my previous post about the craziness that is signing up for Disney Classes check it out here.

So today approximately 24 hours after signing up for Disney courses I received an email requesting documentation about my major. SO this  means I am probably in or high on the real wait-list for the Engineering Professional Development Seminar. The course focuses on mechanical, civil, and industrial engineering in the parks. More information about the courses available to Disney College Program participants is found on the DORMS site. As soon as I get confirmation about my documentation I will let everyone know. Keep your fingers crossed.

Until next time. Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust!

Disney Course Registration Drops!

This is more of an emotional reaction instead of useful information pertaining towards signing up for Disney Courses. Hope you enjoy! 🙂

The Hours Before Sign-ups

200So I’m up and course sign ups are not for another 2 hours. My Disney Dorms Password is working. I only plan on taking one course at Disney. My preference is: The Engineering PD Seminar, Disney Leadership, or the hard to get into Disney Heritage course. The first two courses can be applied to my major and oriented for my career goals. While Disney Heritage on the other hand is the course to take for fun. It is a four week long course about the history of Disney. I don’t think I would take any of the other courses because they are so far fetched from my major and focused for Hospitality, Communications, and Marketing majors.

Immediately Before Sign-ups Open and the following Chaos

200So 5 minutes before sign-ups DORMS goes down. For the next hour it was a battle of on the site off the site to get classes. At first they were all open. Then they were all closed. Then they were open again. No joke that was just the first 35 minutes. Then me and my two lovely room mates get the elusive Disney Heritage in out carts only to be kicked out of the system again (it crashed everyone was out). At this point I’m terrified for my chances of getting in the Engineering Seminar. I finally get to the Professional Development Seminars page and my heart drops it is wait-list only. After another 20 minutes on and off the site I make it to my cart and pay. Some how both the wait-listed Engineering Seminar is there and the Heritage class with my roomies. I get the confirmation email and breathe a sigh of relief sign-ups for classes is done.

After Sign-ups

I check Facebook to see if anyone else is in the major specific seminars. A kind person responds that wait-list is the only option since they verify our majors before enrolling us in the courses.  So this means I am technically in the Engineering Professional Development Class! However until I get the confirmation I’m going to keep saying wait-listed.

200Now about the Heritage course.  Normally it closes 5 minutes after sign-ups start. The combination of my roomies wanting to take it and it still being open inspired me to sign up. Also once I explained to my Disney-nerd mom what the Disney Heritage Course is she was like OMG Disney History 101 don’t you dare drop it. So plans changed and I guess I’m taking two classes.

Advice for Future Participants

  • Don’t blame your computer for bad programming
  • Check your dorms password regularly. Many people were locked out and couldn’t sign up for classes at all.
  • Talk with your roomies and friends about taking a class together.
  • You might not get in the courses you want.
  • Don’t schedule work during signups or the 2 hours after wards
  • Read the email about how to sign up (or read the facebook pages)
  • Don’t freak out once the site calms down you can log back on and double check that your classes went through.
  • Some courses have a fee between 15 and 30 dollars so be on the look out for that.

200

Well that was my experience for Disney Course Registrations. I’ve heard it is always like this. If you’ve taken the Heritage, Engineering PD Seminar, or any Disney courses on a Program let me know how they went. Until next time!

Packing for the DCP!

download (3)Packing is probably my least favorite thing about moving anywhere. The thought process of Will I need this? or Oh I can use this for this one random thing. Then there are lists at basically every store for how to make your dorm look cool. I have moved in and out of dorms the past four years without a car. Very rarely do those store lists actually help or do you actually use that poncho that was cool ten years ago.

So instead of telling you every little item on my list and in my wardrobe I’m going to list my top items to bring, leave, and buy.

Bring

  1. A Spare tooth brush– Accidents happen. At some point it will fall on the dirtiest part of the floor, be dropped in a toilet, used by a stranger (or strange acquaintance), covered in your room mates hair product. Just bring an extra one.
  2. A Bed Bug Cover for your bed. You are in a new place with new people from different places. Bed Bugs will probably happen to you or someone you know in college or the college program so make it harder for the bugs to live. Some will cover just one side of your bed others fully encase your bed.
  3. Band-aids– Accidents happen and duck tape and Kleenex are not a substitute for when you scratch yourself on the dull edge of the table.
  4. Small Sewing kit and Measuring Tape– Most people lose weight on the program and being able to make small edits to outfits is a great way to save money. Also the measuring tape is super useful for ordering stuff online and other random times.
  5. Camera(s)– I know many people who are like I should just use my phone (followed by upgrade to a smart phone). However I enjoy unplugging from my phone and focusing on getting the perfect image. Also the Disney College Program is the experience of a life time I plan on documenting mine (watch out social media).vintage picture mickey mouse theme park making memories

Leave

  1. Shower Caddy– They look super convenient  and give a dedicated space to your toiletries. In reality, your tooth brush will fall out onto the nastiest part of the bathroom floor leaving you without a way to brush your teeth. Also you have to clean them weekly cause they attract mold like no tomorrow.
  2. Candles– I like them too but they’re not allowed and smelling nice is not worth a fine.
  3. Sewing Machine or similarly large crafting box- Yes, I usually bring a crafting box but in my free time I’m going to the parks or catching up on shows. So no awesome Walt canvases for the next 6 months.
  4. Alaska Quality Winter Coat– It is Florida it won’t be super cold so a light jacket or two will be enough and besides you will probably buy a Disney jacket during your program. I’m bringing 2 jackets, 2 vests, and a sweat shirt. It is probably too much but unless it is super cold I won’t unpack my sweat shirt or thicker jacket. But I will be comfortable that one cold night of my program.
  5. Anything listed as Prohibited on the Disney College Program Website- See here

cheezburger cat hide suitcase packing

Buy There (In addition to Walmart there is a facebook page for DCP to trade and buy from each other)

  1. Bathroom Supplies
  2. Food
  3. Cleaning Supplies-Buy these first and clean your room before you move in
  4. Anything that is too big to bring like plastic drawers
  5. Anything that you and your room mates didn’t bring because who needs 5 toasters, coffee makers, and other similar items.

So that’s my top 5 to Bring, Leave, and Buy. Please Comment with some of your favorite items to Bring, Leave, and Buy! And have a magical day!

Disney Housing Registration. As told by Donald Duck

Finding room mates online can be fun and having the support before the program can make the transition easier. However beware Disney varies how many people they allow you to link with between 0 and 7 room mates. So the GooseSquad (my roommate’s group name) is going to be having two different nest.

Yes that’s right readers. As the first Fall arrival date we can only link with 2 other participants. Therefore we will be in two groups of three people each. You might be asking can’t we make a chain and link with each other that way. Nope, people have tried this on previous arrival dates and then been given none of the room mates they wanted. The only thing we can do to increase our chances of rooming together is rank our housing in the same order and hope for a miracle.

disney christmas christmas tree donald duck decorateFollowing finding room mates talk about which apartments your group wants to live in and have a ranking ready prior to the email. Some things to consider include location of the washer and dryer, proximity to housing events, availability of buses, price (it is about a $20 difference between the most expensive and cheapest apartments) and if any have gained a negative reputation during the first arrival dates.

Be sure to keep your dorms password up to date so that you can access the site when sign ups happen.

Disney will send out an email for Dorms like this:

Housing2

Only one room mate needs to take lead and select housing and enter the information to link with each other. The rest will receive a confirmation email to fill out and complete their required information.

On the site you can also select to opt out of housing, purchase a parking pass, request a room to accommodate disabilities, and choose wellness or non wellness. They will have you agree to a housing contract. Their contract is basically the same as any one from a dorm. Some of the more useful information including the cost of each complex and room setup.

Once everything is completed you will receive your boarding pass and be ready to move to the Happiest Place on Earth.

In Summary:

  1. Decide on finding roommates or going random.
  2. Rank preferences on housing complexes
  3. Decide who in your group will enter your choices
  4. Check your email regularly for the ‘Disney Housing Registration’ Email from Dorms
  5. Give your id number to the roommate filling out the forms or collect everyone’s id numbers
  6. Make sure everyone receives the confirmation email that your group is linked
  7. Agree to the Housing Contract
  8. Print your boarding pass to Disney
  9. Celebrate living with your Disney roomies!

25 Days! Car and Room Mates Update

tangled rapunzelIn 25 Days I have check-in for my Disney College Program. I am so excited to be working in merchandise for this amazing company. I can’t believe I have found the 5 most perfect girls to move-in with. Disney provides housing for both their Florida and California programs. The housing for Florida requires approximately 10 hours of work to cover the cost each week. My room mates and I ranked the housing options as a group. I’m not really that worried because all the rooms in the vlogs look essentially the same. Also there are hit and miss rooms in every complex so no reason to worry. My friend who is a program alum said her apartment was perfect besides being exactly between two bus stops so she drove to work most days. While another acquaintance said her apartment was very close to a stop and used the buses almost everyday without any major incidents.

So I’m not planning to bring/buy a car at this time. I might lease one if my location has hours where I would need one but since I won’t find out till I move-in no reason to incur the expense now. Another reason for this decision is that I have fallen asleep while driving before and never want that to happen again (I was lucky I only hit the neighbor’s trash can…). Also I despise parking and have been late before while driving in circles looking for an easier spot to park in.

So back to my room mates. Soon Disney will send us an email to link with each other. Hopefully they will let us all link together. Some move-in dates have the option to link with more people than others. Since we are the first Fall date we assume all participants from the Spring Advantage will have moved out and we will have the option to link together. I will update you with either good or bad news on that as soon as I find out. One of my room mates is an alum and has been super helpful in answering our questions and making the process less intimidating. For now I am just going to reveal our roles and once we are confirmed to be living together we will make a group vlog to share. evil mickey mouse jerk donald duck theme parkOur roles are: 1 in attractions, 1 in monorail,   2 in QSFB, and 2 in merchandise. So among our group we have a good mix of the roles and most likely won’t be at the same locations. Even if Disney only lets us request one or two other people to live with I am excited to have found such an awesome squad to be friends with during my program. #GooseSquad
